I can finally catch up with good WiFi access in Mumbai (just arrived this evening).
The last 2 weeks in Botswana with MAWS flew by!
There was a week of inexplicable facial abscesses in young dogs with apparently healthy-looking teeth; they unfortunately also had mucopurulent drainage from the OPPOSITE nostril of the facial abscess (!!!). (What?!?!). I don't know if they had acquired some bizarre fungal infection or other sinus disease, but I hope a course of 2 different antibiotics helps somewhat... Here was one very gentle, scruffy mutt:

O Brother, Where Art Thou, anyone? Seen on a "sundowner" boat trip I took with my cohorts Mary-Anne and Richard:
Finally some kitties!!!
I hope this picture was post-sedation. :-) (I honestly don't remember!).
Left front kitty appears highly dubious of this situation...the foursome were all very sweet!
Bottoms up! This is the common "pose" for feline neuters. (Yes, he is completely asleep).
A very preggers spay!! (Dog overpopulation problem trumps the moral & ethical question of spaying dogs with advanced pregnancies).
Mary-Anne has practiced both mixed-animal and small animal medicine since graduating from vet school. She tracked down and treated the following pair of donkeys. First photo is a stray donkey mom with a very mangled ear. Mom responded nicely to treatment (sorry, no post-treatment photo).
Following photos are donkey mom's foal, who was a bit scraggly and had a very deep, infected wound near his left mandible:
Despite treatment, the foal sadly did not improve and ultimately had to be euthanized. :'(
The following photos are from an extended weekend provided very generously by Wilderness Safaris (based in Maun). Tana H. organized the trip for us (thank you so much, Tana!). Tana also is the lead coordinator for all the MAWS volunteers and the MAWS clinic...not an easy task in addition to a full time job!!! Our weekend was at a lovely lodge called Tubu Tree.
A meditating baboon:
became distracted,
:-D (I've been there!!!).
A gorgeous young male leopard who actually walked under our jeep and was about 3 feet from me when he looked up, made eye contact with me, and scared me enough to forget taking a photo right then because he let out a very low grumble and retracted his whiskers as he maintained eye contact with me (yikes!!).
For those who mistakenly think these safaris are in any way "roughing it," think again:
Yes, these are tents, but very luxurious tents!
Wonderful outdoor shower option
(Kwando Safaris was the other company I traveled with in Botswana...also highly recommended).
2 handsome young male lion brothers:
Doing what all cats, large and small, do best!!!
A dog's left ovary about to be removed surgically...except this one was different because there were NUMEROUS small white, thin worms moving in crazy, curlique patterns in the blood and on the external surfaces of all the intra-abdominal organs!!! You may be able to see one if you look closely near the bottom center portion of the exposed rectangle of flesh. Video captured these worms well, but I haven't been able to download the video from my camera (sorry!). During this particular spay, I stood a good distance away from the operating table and desperately hoped that these parasites would not penetrate gloves...which they thankfully didn't (as far as I can tell thus far).
Finally, a couple of "awwww" photos and a couple of our "extra" cottage-mates:
I named this guy Bob...he (she?) liked to hide behind one of my room curtains. I suppose he did his part by eating bugs!
Thankfully, this creature preferred to be OUTSIDE my room.
